For a Few Euros More
In the project For a Few Euros More, Chloe Dewe Mathews investigates the dynamic of modern agriculture, shading light on the production and consumption of food, the exploitation of people and the current environmental crisis. The project is located in the humongous Mar de Plastico (Sea of Plastic) that extends to the South West of Almeria, in South of Spain, a huge agricultural surface where half of the fruit and vegetable that will be in the supermarkets of the whole of Europe is produced. Starting from these places, she puts in evidence three realities that characterize the area, contiguous while being very different amongst themselves: the agricultural polytunnels, a mine in disuse and the abandoned film sets of Spaghetti Westerns. These imposing structures and these falling remains are the background of a video and photographic installation of Dewe Mathews and of the travels of Maruf, the seasonal migrating worker, protagonist of the video.
Chloe Dewe Mathews (1982) is a photographic artist based in St Leonards on Sea, England. Her work is internationally recognized and has been exhibited at Tate Modern, Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden.
