Cookie policy

(Provision of the Italian Data Protection Authority dated 8 May 2014, published in the Official Gazette issue 126 on 3 June 2014 implementing Directive 2002/58/EC)
Cookies are small strings of text that the site visited by the user sends to his/her terminal (usually to the browser), where they are saved so as to be later sent back to the same site the next time that user visits it. In addition to its application to cookies, the Data Protection Authority provision also applies to other, similar instruments (web beacons/web bugs, clear GIFs, etc.) which enable the user or terminal to be identified.
While browsing on a site, the user may also receive cookies on his/her terminal sent from different sites or web servers (so-called “third parties”) which host certain elements (such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, or specific links to pages on other domains) present on the site the user is visiting.
Cookies, which are usually present in high numbers on users’ browsers and may also be stored for long periods of time, are used for different aims: performing digital authentication, monitoring sessions, saving information on specific settings regarding users who access the server, etc.
So as to regulate such instruments appropriately, it is necessary to distinguish between them, given that there are no technical characteristics that differentiate them specifically on the basis of the purposes for using them. This is, furthermore, the same direction taken by the law, which in implementing the provisions contained in Directive 2009/136/EC has connected the obligation to acquire users’ prior and informed consent to the installation of cookies used for purposes that go beyond merely technical aims.

Further information on the cookies used by the site

When this site is visited, first party cookies (which are generated and used by this site) as well as third party cookies (generated on this site by third parties) may be introduced onto the user’s computer or other device. We wish to specify that disabling some cookies could limit the ability to use the site and prevent the user from fully benefiting from its functionalities and services. To decide which cookies to accept and which to refuse, a description of the cookies used follows.
Navigation cookies (first party cookies): these are cookies that ensure normal navigation and use of the website and which enable the connection between the server and the user’s browser. They permit the site to function properly and enable the content to be viewed on the device used. Without them, some of the requested functionalities (for example, logging in to the site) may not be provided. Navigation cookies are technical cookies and are required for the site to function.
Functional cookies (first party cookies): these are cookies saved to the computer or other device which, based on the user’s request, record his/her choices so as to remind him/her of them with the aim of optimising and providing an improved, customised navigation experience while using the service or accessing this site (e.g., saving the user’s password in a restricted area, playing a video, etc.). Functional cookies are not essential for the site to function, but they improve the quality and experience of using it.
Analytical cookies (third party cookies): these are cookies that collect information on how the user makes use of the website, such as, for example, which web pages are visited most often. This site uses third party cookies by “Google Analytics”, a statistical analysis service provided and managed by Google. The Google Analytics system on this site has been set up in such a way as to reduce the identifying capacity of the cookies, and the functions that permit third parties to cross-reference the information have been disabled. With such settings, this type of cookie is rendered equivalent to a technical cookie. Analytical cookies are not essential for the site to function.
